Wisdom.
3 months ago I was so nervous to go sailing... Last week I spent 6 days on the trot racing with an incredible crew.. here are a few reminders that came up:
- Sweating the small stuff is just as important as sweating the big stuff (the knot in a sheet is as important as the size of a sail)
- Sometimes you need to scream to be heard (and then shout even louder!)
- There’s more in you than you could ever imagine - relate that to confidence, knowledge, energy.. you name it, you have a shit tonne of it hidden away
- It feels damn good to be competitive (2nd overall in our class.. BOOM )
- It’s okay to doubt yourself and share those doubts with others. People want to help
-There’s more than 1 way to do things. Find the way that suits you best
-Sometimes life feels most peaceful when the most chaos is going on. Chaos isn’t necessarily bad.. it can be taking you from A to B, you just need different skills to get there
- There are times you need to borrow faith from others.. borrow away. And share yours too
- Our bodies are more capable and hold more wisdom than our little brains will ever be able to fathom
-Things can go totally tits up. Stop. Pause. Re-group. Do what you can. Watch the magic unfold on the other side
-Trust. Trust the water, the sheets, the sails, the rest of the crew, your abilities, your voice, that what you have to say is valid, the wind, the water. And if you don’t trust.. that’s alright too.. you’ll be okay whatever happens
Be proud of yourself
I’m proud of myself for using my voice, being bossy, saying what I needed in the moment, allowing myself to fully switch off from work, owning up to mistakes, trusting myself, keeping going when I wanted to give up, fucking up and not letting it ruin my week, being ballsy, screaming from the top of my lungs at people..
I would love to know.. what’s your version of sailing?
Be you,
Izi xx
